A growing competitive packaging manufacturer in Western GTA, seeking an experienced VP / Director of Operations to lead its manufacturing organization and play a key role in the company's continued growth.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an accomplished operations professional who understands the complexities of packaging manufacturing, production, people, quality, scheduling, costs and customer expectations.
The successful candidate will provide strategic direction while remaining closely connected to the day-to-day operation. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is comfortable on the plant floor, understands manufacturing realities and knows how to turn strategy into measurable results. Reporting to senior leadership, the VP / Director of Operations will have overall responsibility for manufacturing and operational performance, leading a team of managers, supervisors and production employees. The mandate is straightforward: build a stronger operation, develop the team, improve productivity, strengthen accountability and support profitable growth. You will be responsible for bringing together people, processes, equipment and technology to create a high-performing manufacturing organization capable of consistently delivering quality products, on time and at the right cost.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic and operational leadership across the manufacturing organization.
• Lead production, maintenance, quality, scheduling and other operational functions.
• Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
• Establish clear KPIs, performance expectations and accountability throughout the organization.
• Drive improvements in productivity, throughput, labour efficiency, waste, downtime, quality and on-time delivery.
• Optimize production scheduling, workflow and capacity utilization.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
• Develop and execute continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
• Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Estimating, Purchasing and Finance to ensure operational alignment.
• Support capital equipment planning, automation initiatives and technology investments.
• Oversee production costs and work closely with Finance to improve manufacturing profitability.
• Develop, coach and mentor plant managers, production managers, supervisors and other key leaders.
• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
• Maintain a strong focus on product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Lead operational planning for future growth, including capacity, staffing, equipment and facility requirements.
• Work closely with senior leadership/ownership on strategic business initiatives.
What We're Looking For
• 10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, within packaging or print manufacturing
• Previous experience as a VP Operations, Director of Operations, Plant Manager, General Manager
• Strong knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes and production environments.
• Demonstrated success leading complex manufacturing operations and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing KPIs, financial performance and operational metrics.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma
• Proven ability to improve productivity, reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.
• Strong experience with production planning, scheduling, capacity management and workflow optimization.
• Experience with ERP/MIS systems and manufacturing technology.
• Strong people leadership and team-development capabilities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to understand the relationship between operations, customers and profitability.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline is an asset.
Compensation & Benefits
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience +$150,000 – $175,000*
• Performance-based bonus structure.
